Alethea says "Woohoo!"
12 weeks with Baby Hill 2.0
We found out we were expecting on October 21st, 2012 when I was 6 weeks 4 days along. We waited for a while to test since my cycle had been so irregular. I didn't remember it that day in all the excitement but, one fact I realized later on is that, it was the same day in 2010 that our miscarried baby was due. So it was a bit of a special day to find out baby number 2 is on its way!
Because of the miscarriage in the past and just wanting to make sure everything was healthy, we waited until almost the end of the first trimester to make it public knowledge and starting at 10 weeks we started to tell family and friends gradually using the t-shirt Alethea is wearing in the picture above. So much fun!
I am now 12 weeks and 4 days a long, very excited, but exhausted, and ready for the 2nd trimester energy to kick in, lol. I have been much more naseous this time around, I think the tiredness is up a knotch because I can't sleep nearly as much as I was able to when pregnant with Alethea, and I am showing much quicker this time too. Overall though, I can't complain because it has been a super easy pregnancy so far. I just go to bed when Alethea goes to bed many nights, lol.
We had our 1st ultrasound/dr appt. a day shy of 10 weeks and it was fun because we were able to bring Alethea with us and we saw the same doctor that delivered Alethea via c-section. It was a wait that was entirely too long, but Alethea did great and it was so worth it to have the reassurance that everything was developing healthy. According the ultrasound baby is due June 15th, but the doctor is just keeping with the last known period date which gave us June 13th. Most likely neither date will be correct, but for sure baby 2.0 will be here before June 27th because they won't let me go past then (maybe even sooner). I was reassured that we will be able to have a VBAC (yay!), however I will most likely have to have an epidural (blegh!). I still have more research to do on that, but either way, the hope of not having another c-section is reassuring enough for me for now!
I was also reassured that I can continue to do my running as long as I don't push myself too hard. So I have been using a heart rate monitor to keep my heart rate under 150 (which means super slow running at times, especially when pushing a running stroller). But I have been able to maintain running 4 times a week for anywhere from 1.5 to 3 miles a day depending on how much time we have.
God has been good and we are super excited. It only took us 9 months of trying this time which was half of the time it took to get pregnant with Alethea. Even though it was hard to see it at the time, we know God has perfect timing and it is His perfect plan to have this June baby and not a baby any sooner like we had tried for. The baby will be born by the end of June, Ben will have his last day of work July 1st and then before this baby is a month old we will hopefully be moving up closer with family wherever Ben is able to find a job. Next summer is going to be a crazy, but we are absolutely looking forward to all of it!
So excited for you guys!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to share that I have actually been running and lifting weights only slightly less than I did before I was pregnant and haven't had any issues.
I read this book: "Exercising Through Your Pregnancy" by James F. Clapp III, M.D. (ignore the picture on the front) and really appreciated it. It explains where the whole "140 bpm" recommendation comes from and details several studies he's done with hundreds of women who had very healthy births and were regularly doing heavy, weight-bearing exercises (like running).
Obviously it's totally your choice, but just wanted to share!
Congrats again!
Thanks Karen! I will have to check that book out!
DeleteCongrats!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI had planned to have a full-fledged running pregnancy (don't know if you kept up with my posts about it), and was doing good until the 20 week ultrasound when we had the whole Down Syndrome possibility and then I started second guessing myself (which is silly, because running doesn't cause DS)...and cut back to elliptical/walking/light weights.
I'm of the opinion that it's not so much the heart rate that matters, as it is how you feel (And not getting overheated). My typical running HR is 170s, just because that's my 'training zone,' so to keep it to less than 160 was always my goal. I read that over heating is what causes more problems for the baby because your body has to work harder to cool you off, and thus uses less energy to keep the baby growing.
That's my spiel about that :-)
I'm really excited for you guys and hope that things go smoothly!
