Declan's 6 month update...He's already a half a year old!

This has been written for over a month now, but I am finally posting it now that I have time to add the pictures!

Socks!

Weight: 16lbs 9.6oz

Height: 27.25 inches (same length Alethea was at 6 months!)

Clothing: We have officially packed away all of his 3-6 month and 6 month clothing with the exception of 1 pair of pants that for whatever reason are longer.  He is even beginning to outgrow some 6-9 and 6-12 month shirts.  Most of what he wears is either 6-9 or 9 month.

Standing up by his learn and groove rockin' a 9-12 month t-shirt :-)

Sometimes he even gets to accessorize, lol

Diapers: Still on the same rise, but we seem to be doing more changes simply because he is wetting heavier.  He seems to be having less frequency with BMs, but unfortunately that means they are bigger when they come, lol.

Who needs clothes when you have a ribbon!

Eating: He is nursing anywhere from 4-6 times a day; most days it is 5 though.  He is only rarely waking early morning to nurse and go back to sleep.

Sometimes eating to a food coma is necessary :-)

Friendships: Still rocking the friendships with family.  He watches Alethea like a hawk and wants to know everything she is doing.  They play together super well for now, but that is because He is okay with her being in charge. J

Reading time

Big sister gave him a hat

Playing with big sis

A wagon!

Mobility: He is super close to crawling, but not quite there.  He rolls all over for now.  He gets up on all fours and rocks, but mostly just smashes his face into the ground to push forward, lol.  He can get himself from a seated position to the tummy position and only occasionally needs help because his foot gets caught under him in the process.  He can pull himself up to a kneeling position if he is holding onto something.  He also loves to stand up with help, but he is still pretty wobbly in that position.

More standing

Sleeping:  The beginning of the month started out choppier with sleep and we had several early mornings and a few middle of the night feedings.  Plus, at the beginning of the month he was such a sporadic napper that it began to get a bit frustrating.  Thankfully, I was able to problem solve and figured out that he needed to be kept awake longer between naps so that he would sleep longer.  He went from taking three to four 40 minute naps to taking a 1 to 1.5hr nap in the am and then a 1.5 to 2.5hr nap in the afternoon with the occasional 30 – 40 minute nap in the evening.  (MUCH better!)  The other revelation we came to is that he likes to go to bed earlier.  We had been putting him to bed between 8 and 830 just like Alethea, but we found that he was still sleeping as late in the morning (sometimes even later) if we put him to bed between 7 and 7:30.  Some nights this isn’t possible with what we have going on, but we try to give him this opportunity when we can.  Whether naps or bedtime, he goes to sleep on his own, almost every time.  He is a big fan of his middle and ring finger and we have big issues if they get caught up in the arm of his sleeper at night because he can no longer self soothe.  Thankfully this only happens on rare occasions.

Playtime: He loves Sophie the giraffe!  He will chew on her for a good 20 minutes content.  He loves to play with ribbon and tag blankets.  He also really loves the learn and groove just like Alethea. They both actually like it so much that we have had our first “fights” over that toy, lol.  He also loves the toy drum; he uses the drum sticks quite well already.  He loves books! He will even sit through longer books with Alethea as long as she is willing to tolerate his almost constant slapping of the pages. (Thankfully, she is surprisingly patient with him.)  He loves his toes and really enjoys chewing on his socks while pulling them off his feet.  He also loves to chew on foamy waffle blocks that we have.  Basically he just loves to chew on things!  We have had a few mishaps where he has gotten a hold of paper and gagged himself, but for the most part he is good to go.  He is becoming less of a fan of his jumperoo.  I am pretty sure this is the same age that Alethea started to get annoyed with being trapped in it too.

Just driving

All smiles

Nom Nom

He loves necklaces!

Communication:  He is still a squealer!  He loves to squeal whether happy, sad, or mad.  It can sometimes be difficult to tell the emotion without looking at his face, lol.  Unfortunately he seems to bit a bit of a drama queen (or I guess king) and goes from 0 to 1000 in a matter of seconds.  He is gradually getting better, but still reacts quite suddenly especially when he is tired.  He still does a fair amount of cooing and clicking types sounds and is a super sweet boy most of the time.  You just don’t want to catch him when he isn’t happy. J  He is very expressive with his mouth and eyes, and he has the cutest little pouty/quiver lip when he is sad.

Teeth: Still has none, and honestly it seems like his drooling has slowed down so maybe he hasn’t teethed yet.  I guess the drooling early on was due to not knowing how to control his saliva or I guess possibly due to the fact that he went for so long with cold-like symptoms that he was breathing more out of his mouth (and therefore drooling more).  Whether he has started teething yet or not will only be known with time, but he for sure isn’t fussy because of it if he is.  I am not sure if that is due to the teething necklace, but I will taking my chances with that until he shows otherwise. J

Random: He gets to wear headbands and hats a lot due to Alethea loving to play dress up with him.  He loves necklaces…to the point that I make sure I have one on most of the time just in case I need a distraction technique.  He rode in the front of the shopping cart for the first time this month on November 29th.  Crazily enough, I think both kiddos went on their first shopping trip in the front of the cart at Walmart….I guess that is what happens when it is the closest store to where we have lived at the time.  He also tried out water in a sippy cup for the first time this month on November 29th.  Declan loves to bang on things and this ends up being a bit painful for Daddy when he carries Declan on his shoulders, lol.  He went to bed for the first time with a bottle vs. nursing to sleep when Daddy and Mommy went to Daddy’s Christmas party for work on December 7th and he did great.  He also sat in a high chair at a restaurant for the first time this month on December 1st.  He loved it!  This month marked his switch from the infant carrier to a convertible car seat on December 3rd.  He is still rear facing (and will be until at least 2years old), but he is much happier in his more spacious car seat that Alethea handed down to him.  He hasn’t technically had his first foods, but he has been allowed to lick a few apples and gnaw on a few carrots from time to time this month. J

He loves it...most of the time
